The popularity of this sandwich is so great that it holds a Guinness World Record that was set in the year 2000 by Vermont’s Cabot Creamery. However, this record has been broken by two young boys from the United States of America (USA), as part of their celebration for reaching a milestone of 1,00,000 subscribers on YouTube. They decided to cook the world’s largest Grilled Cheese Sandwich and earning a Guinness World Record in their name. The pair successfully attempted this record on 21 October, but their record was publicly verified on 27 November.
Named Exodus (11) and Iggy Chaudhary (10) from Wisconsin, recently made this giant sandwich with the help of their parents and neighbours, and it measured 1.89 metres (6.2 ft) wide, 3.32 meters (10.8 ft) long and 7 centimetres (2.7 in) thick. The weight of the sandwich was 189.9 kg. It was about 45 kilograms heavier than the previous record. The sandwich was made using focaccia bread that was cut into giant slices, where the base layer was cooked on an open flame while the top layer was blowtorched.
Once the Guinness World Records adjudicators had taken all of the sandwich’s measurements, the Grilled Cheese Sandwich was served to visitors who gathered at the Tripoli Shrine Center, an event venue in Milwaukee, where the giant sandwich was transferred from the Choudhury Gharana. Leftover sandwiches were donated to local food banks.
According to Guinness World Records, the two brothers were inspired to create this record after watching a YouTube video of how the world’s largest pizza was made. The brothers started eating Grilled Cheese Sandwiches because their home state of Wisconsin is known for its cheese and dairy industry. Now, Exodus and Iggy have documented their world record attempt on their YouTube channel, where they show their adventurous sides by playing & travelling together. Their channel, ‘The Exodus and Iggy Show’ has about 1,78,000 subscribers on YouTube.
