The members of NewJeans voiced their support for ADOR CEO Min Hee Jin during the first day of the injunction hearing against HYBE at Seoul’s Central District Court, on May 17. Min Hee Jin had previously filed an injunction to prevent HYBE from terminating her contract, alleging various instances of sabotage, threats, and mistreatment towards NewJeans.
During the hearing, Min Hee Jin’s legal representatives presented a strong case, accusing HYBE of breaking promises and undermining Min Hee Jin’s efforts. According to the lawyer, “HYBE promised to make Min Hee Jin’s group but broke their promise and debuted LE SSERAFIM. Min Hee Jin then made ADOR and brought in the members to debut NewJeans as soon as possible. Even then, HYBE wouldn’t let ADOR market NewJeans and forbade them from using titles such as All-Teenage Group… Bang Si Hyuk also didn’t acknowledge NewJeans when they greeted him. Min Hee Jin’s lawyer further emphasized the close relationship between the CEO and NewJeans. The lawyer noted that, “Min Hee Jin, as per ADOR’s exclusive contract with NewJeans, has an obligation to protect them from outside intrusions. Even if she had a shareholder agreement, she has an obligation to let HYBE know. Min Hee Jin has never violated these obligations. In 2024, NewJeans will be releasing their album and will go on a world tour. NewJeans members have stated they wouldn’t be able to do a lot of things without Min Hee Jin and have stated they wanted to be with her. This is something the fans have acknowledged”.
The hearing also revealed that NewJeans members were alarmed by HYBE’s suggestion of an 18-month hiatus, which Min Hee Jin and the members found deeply unsettling. The lawyer argued, “After April 16, HYBE mentioned a long hiatus for NewJeans. Min Hee Jin and the members are frightened by this. Min Hee Jin’s termination will bring unrecoverable losses to themselves, NewJeans, ADOR and Min Hee Jin”.
