Niall Horan forced to walk to Toronto concert due to bad traffic

The One Direction alum and judge on The Voice experienced firsthand what Torontonians deal with on a daily basis.

The singer’s tour hit Toronto for two sold-out shows at Scotiabank Arena on June 28 and 29 and fame did not spare him a taste of the city’s gridlock.

And it was very, very bitter.

The Irish singer, however, tried to stay on the bright side as he and his crew headed to the venue on foot.

“Traffic’s too bad in Toronto, so we’re walking to the venue,” the 30year-old said in a video he posted to X in which vehicles can be seen at a standstill behind him.

Horan is seen walking beneath the Gardiner Expressway while his cover version of the Proclaimers song “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)” plays.

The “Slow Hands” singer is also filmed walking along Lake Shore Boulevard.

The song breaks as he starts to enter a ramp leading to Scotiabank Arena.

“In all of the years playing shows, I don’t think I’ve ever walked into a venue,” he says.

“Here we go,” he adds as the music picks up again before they get inside. “We made it!”

Toronto is notorious for its traffic congestion and seemingly constant road construction.

Work on the Gardiner has closed lanes in both directions as the bridged highway gets rehabilitated, but new data from Geotab Intelligent Transportations Systems shows that trips now take up to 250% longer during morning rush hour, while commutes during afternoon peak times are 230% longer, the Toronto Sun reported last month.

And in 2023, Toronto had the third-slowest moving traffic in the world, according to research by the satellite navigation firm, TomTom.

Horan’s walking journey likely saved him a lot of frustration, though it appears he didn’t have to trek on foot for his second show.

The singer was part of One Direction from its beginning X Factor days until the band went on hiatus in 2016.

Horan embarked on a solo career, releasing his debut album Flicker in 2017, followed by 2020’s Heartbreak Weather.

His third studio album, The Show, dropped in 2023.
