The production run is coming to an end after 17 years. The R35 GT-R was launched back in 2007 as a replacement for the R34 GT-R.Over 17 years, the company gave it two major facelifts with cosmetic and mechanical upgrades. It also has got various special editions and Nissan USA is sending off the GT-R with two special edition models – Skyline and Takumi Editions.
The R35 GT-R and even the previous generations R32, R33 and R34 were known for their tuning capabilities. There are many examples with over 1000 hp of power and close to 1000 nm torque. This car is also known for its handling due to AWD setup, even with all that power the AWD helped the car to put power on the road without having to lose control.
The current model on sale is powered by a 3.8-litre, DOHC twin-turbocharged V6 known as VR38DETT petrol engine with 565 hp of power and 630 nm of torque. There’s also the NISMO model 600 hp of power and with over 650 nm of torque. The engine comes paired with a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission which sends power to all four wheels.
Talking about the two final editions – T-spec Takumi Edition and the Skyline Edition. Both models are limited to less than 200 units in North America and they pay tribute to the legacy of the GT-R in unique ways. The term Takumi refers to the four master craftsmen who hand-build each GT-R engine, affixing a plaque with their name on each one before it leaves the shop.
It also features special red-etched writing of those names and a gold VIN plate and will get Midnight Purple paint job with a Mori Green interior. The Takumi gets carbon ceramic brakes and forged RAYS wheels. Talking about the Skyline, this model gets Bayside Blue exterior paint and Sora Blue interior.
