The motor vehicle department of the state has started the bidding process for the contractors who will make HSRPs in bulk to meet the demand. The fitting process will begin early next year and is expected to be finished by the year-end, during which, over 1 crore vehicles will be equipped with HSRPs.

What are HSRPs?
HSRPs are made of a special aluminium alloy and have a number of identifiable features, such as a blue chromium-based Ashoka Chakra hologram, a unique laser-branded 10-digit permanent identification number (PIN), and more.
At present, the rule is enforced in Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh only and a fine of ₹5,500 is charged for vehicles that are found without HSRPs.
How to get yours?
If you own an old vehicle that doesn’t have a HSRP, the process to apply for one is simple. The government will be setting up centres under the state RTOs with the help of the contractors. You have to apply for a HSRP using a mobile application after which, the contractors will reach you out once the number plate is ready and is available for fitting. Then, you just simply need to visit the centre and get the job done.
