The new chip platform ‘Rubin’ will be rolled out in 2026
New Delhi: Ahead of the COMPUTEX tech conference in Taipei, the American multinational tech company, Nvidia announced its next generation of Artificial Intelligence chips, succeeding the previous generation models announced in March.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang announced the new AI chip architecture on Sunday dubbed as “Rubin.” The new chips will be based on this architecture to enhance the overall speed of the chip. Moreover, this decision shows the relentless determination of Nvidia towards fastening the AI chip development. The new chip platform ‘Rubin’ will be rolled out in 2026
Nvidia has decided to release new AI chip models in a “one-year rhythm,” as opposed to its previous two-year timeline, even though the company released ‘Blackwell’ in March.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Hung said, “Today, we’re at the cusp of a major shift in computing. With our innovations in AI and accelerated computing, we’re pushing the boundaries of what’s possible and driving the next wave of technological advancement.”
What’s New
The new Rubin AI architectures will arrive in 2026, the details of the chip are yet to be revealed. However, the new chip platform will be equipped with new GPUs that will help in training and launching AI systems. It will also accommodate new features like a central processor called ‘Vera’. The chips will support next-generation high-bandwidth memory made by SK Hynix. Micron and Samsung.
The New AI Chips Are Named After An Astronomer
The new AI chips ‘Rubin’ are named after Vera Florence Cooper Rubin, an American astronomer who discovered dark matter and revolutionised the understanding of Galaxies.
Fierce Competition With AMD and Intel
Nvidia’s chips will be up against AMD’s Ryzen AI 300 series for next-generation AI laptops. AMD’s chips will power laptops equipped with Microsoft’s AI chatbot Copilot. Intel, the old horse in the chipset market, is also set to announce its Lunar lake processors in 2024.
