SAN PABLO — Police were looking for the driver and passenger in a vehicle that struck an officer — who fired at the driver — on Friday afternoon.
Just after 1 p.m., San Pablo police officers identified a stolen red 2018 Chevy Malibu near San Pablo Dam Road and San Pablo Avenue, according to a news release from the San Pablo Police Department. When they went to make a traffic stop, the woman driving sped away; police pursued and the vehicle collided with a parked car on the 2100 block of Alfreda Boulevard.
When an officer got out of his vehicle to begin a felony stop on the suspects, the driver accelerated back into the roadway and hit the officer, who had backed up in an effort to get out of the way. At the same time, police said, the officer shot two rounds into the windshield of the car.
The injured officer was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
The driver managed to elude police once crossing into Richmond, authorities said. It was not clear if either person in the car was struck by gunfire.
Police said the vehicle involved is a 2018 red Chevy Malibu with the license plate 8ZUH227. Authorities did not provide a detailed description of the driver or passenger.
Anyone who has information about the incident is asked to contact San Pablo police at 510-215-3150 and anyone who sees the vehicle to contact their local police department immediately.
