The Overwatch Summer Games 2021 event is launching today as part of the annual calendar.

Blizzard has revealed that the next Overwatch update will be going live on Tuesday, July 20, and will end on August 10.

We have the first trailer that has been released by the development team, confirming the first event skins fans can expect in the incoming loot boxes.

The lineup will include Mermaid Symmetra, Poolside Ashe and Sprinkles Mei, all of which will be available for a limited time.

The Summer Games will include a number of popular returning modes, although there won’t be any new ones added or maps.

A start time for the Overwatch Summer Games 2021 event hasn’t been confirmed, but the event is expected to kick off at 7pm BST.

This will be a unified launch, meaning that Blizzard will release the event patch at the same time across PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC.

The official description from last year’s event provides a good overview of what to expect, telling gamers:

“The Overwatch Summer Games are back, and this year we’re challenging you to step onto the field and bring your A game.

“Win matches to earn weekly rewards, and net some goals in the all-new spin on classic Lúcioball, Lúcioball Remix.

“Play to earn Overwatch Summer Games Loot Boxes and unlock cosmetics so you can supervise the battlefield as Lifeguard Pharah, catch some waves as Surf’s Up Echo, or sip on a tropical drink and enjoy the summer sun with Ana’s new Highlight Intro.

“Celebrate another season of thrilling competition with Overwatch Summer Games Loot Boxes, brimming with new skins, player icons, voice lines, emotes, victory poses, and more. Items from previous years’ Summer Games events are also available.

“Don’t wait too long—like any vacation, the Overwatch Summer Games will be over before you know it.”

Here are the two returning modes gamers are expecting to see Blizzard to add:

We’re kicking a curveball your way with Lúcioball Remix! In this faster, more chaotic version of Lúcioball, two balls are in play the entire time and bonus balls worth extra points will periodically spawn around the arena. Be quick on your feet and net more goals than your opponents to win!

Overwatch’s futuristic spin on soccer is back! Team up to boop the ball into the opponent’s goal. The team that scores the most points before time runs out wins the game.

Blizzard is expected to launch today’s Summer Games event as part of a new update.

No early patch notes have been shared yet, meaning we don’t know what will be included, or what background changes are coming.

No PTR patch notes have been shared this month, meaning gamers will need to wait until the official list has been posted online.

The list is expected to include some tweaks to the current Overwatch Crossplay features, which remains in beta testing across all platforms.
