‘Photographer Was Not Doing His Job’: Group Wedding Photo Sparks Debate

wedding group photo with guest in white dress debate

A bride sparked an online debate after she posted a group wedding photo in which a guest posed “front and center” — while wearing an all-white outfit.

Last month, newlywed bride and Reddit user parkratgurl posted a group wedding shot on the r/PhotoshopRequest subreddit — in a post that was upvoted 34,100 times.

My husband’s relative wore white to our wedding and pushed our parents and wedding party out of the way to be in the front and center. Can someone photoshop her dress to black? I’d like to frame and and send to her with the new dress color.

The bride shared a wedding photo of all the guests in attendance on the big day. However, standing next to the bride and groom is a smiling wedding guest dressed head to toe in white.

The bride pleaded with Reddit users to use their Photoshop skills to edit the guest posing in a white gown out of the front row of the group photo.

“My husband’s relative wore white to our wedding and pushed our parents and wedding party out of the way to be in the front and center,” parkratgurl writes.

“Can someone Photoshop her dress to black? I’d like to frame and send to her with the new dress color.”

The online community rallied to the bride’s rescue and used their Photoshop skills to offer her a selection of edited replacement photographs.

Some users changed the wedding guest’s outfit from white to black as requested — while others put the woman in the back row so that only her head was showing in the group shot.

‘This is on The Photographer’

The viral image also fuelled a debate among Reddit users — with some arguing that the photographer should never have let the group shot happen with the guest dressed in white in the front row.

A Reddit user comments: “I’m surprised the photographer didn’t move her, at weddings I’ve been to they have no qualms with moving people around.”

“Completely agree, the photographer was not doing their job,” another Reddit user adds.

“Sometimes it’s difficult for family to have these types of conversations but if a third party (photographer) tells you to move, you probably aren’t going to make a stink about it in front of all these people, generally.”

Another wedding photographer chimed in the Reddit comments and explained that wedding group portraits can be difficult to organize. However, they still felt the photographer should have orchestrated the shot better.

“I shot weddings for a few years,” the photographer says.

“These big group shots can be a bit chaotic to manage, but the photographer really should have got the bride and groom front and center, then the wedding party, parents, [and] immediate family either side of them, then get everyone else to crowd in, behind them.”
