A 40-year-old San Francisco Bay Area father was shot and killed at a Jack in the Box drive-thru in Santa Rosa on Sunday night during an altercation with two men, Santa Rosa police said.

The deceased was identified by the Santa Rosa Police Department as Jeffrey Farinha of Rohnert Park. Farinha left behind a daughter and many other family members as well as friends.

“He was an amazing human being he was one of my good friends that I love dearly,” Andrea Mace, a friend of Farinha’s, wrote in a message to SFGATE. “Whoever took his life left his beautiful daughter without a father and his wonderful loving family without a son, brother, cousin, and uncle. This is such a shock to all of us and he will forever be loved and truly missed forever.”

Police said they found Farinha’s body with gunshot wounds lying in front of the drive-thru when responding to a report of a shooting at the fast food restaurant at 2755 Santa Rosa Ave. They immediately provided medical aid and called for assistance from medics. Farinha was pronounced dead at the scene.

In the preliminary investigation, police determined that Farinha “was involved in an altercation with two suspects,” the police said. At least one man pulled out a handgun, shooting Farinha multiple times, according to a news release. Farinha fell to the ground and the men fled east on Burt Street, the police said.

Police did not locate the men, who were described as wearing ski masks and about 18 to 20 years old.

Farinha’s sister, Jessica Farinha, wrote on GoFundMe that the full circumstances of her brother’s death “are not fully known.”

“What we do know is that our family will no longer be able to create new memories with him,” Jessica wrote. “My parents will not see him grow to his full potential and will have to bury their firstborn child. He will never get to see his daughter, Adelina graduate from high school or send her off to college.”

She added, “Like many of us, my brother had his own demons and this never stopped him from being a bright light in a dark world. He would gladly give the shirt or backpack off his back to someone if he felt they were in need because he had family to support him and many around him did not.”
