A popular Queensland burger chain has closed suddenly after nearly a decade in business, leaving many fans heartbroken.
Getta Burger has entered liquidation and closed 14 of its 17 stores across the state, according to a recent ASIC listing.
Those stores include outlets in Ashgrove, Underwood, Capalaba, Clayfield, North Lakes, Cannon Hill, Victoria Point, West End, Bridgeman Downs, Carina, Springfield Lakes, Holmview, Yamanto and Yatala.
According to its website, Getta Burger was founded and operated by Brent and Amy Poulter and had been trading since 2014.
Brent Poulter told 7NEWS.com.au he had made “the difficult decision” to close Getta Burgers stores on Tuesday.
“Like many small businesses across the state and the country, our stores have felt the full impact of the rising cost of living,” he said.
“I know we are not the only local business facing this pressure, and mine is not the only family feeling the pinch.
“Although this decision was an extremely difficult one for me to make — personally and professionally — it came after a thorough evaluation of the business’s operational costs and our future viability.”
Poulter added in the current environment it was “becoming increasingly difficult” to continue to meet their standards and be a successful business.
“We don’t want to cut corners … and we don’t want to sell inferior meat and charge the same price,” he said.
“As many businesses know too well, it becomes difficult to carry increasing costs and not pass them on to our customers.
“I want to express my sincere gratitude to all employees, customers and suppliers who have been a part of the Getta Burger story.”
Just two weeks ago, Getta Burger was still posting to its 22,000 followers on Instagram.
Fans commented on the post to question the fate of the store after noticing the closures.
“Why are all the Getta Burger joints in SEQ saying they are permanently closed? What happened?” one customer asked.
“What happened to Getta Burger,” another said.
