Prabhas’ Kalki 2898 AD is moving closer to the success of Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan | Hindi Movie News

Directed by Nag Ashwin, and led by Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Prabhas and Deepika Padukone ; Kalki 2898 AD has already spent more than a month at the box office. And even after that, the film is not willing to give up. Yes, the initial mania has died down, but the film is progressing, and is now within the striking distance of displacing Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan from its position of 4th highest grossing film of Indian Cinema, which minted around Rs 640 crore.

At the end of four weeks, Kalki 2898 AD had earned Rs 623.85 crore, and needed another 17 crore to take Jawan’s position. One would assume that it would be a difficult task, but the buzz around it is still so strong, and with no other major release coming in, Kalki 2898 AD is getting double advantage. On its fifth Friday, the film earned Rs 1.25 crore, and on Saturday, it saw a more than 100 % jump in collection to mint Rs 2.9 crore. On Sunday, the film saw another 37 % jump to collect Rs 4 crore, as per early estimates by Sacnilk, thus taking the fifth weekend total to Rs 8.15 crore, and overall collection to Rs 632 crore. Now, it needs a little more than Rs 8 crore to take Jawan’s position, which, if the trend continues, it would do so by the next weekend.
Coming Friday sees the release of Ajay Devgn and Tabu starrer Auron Mein Kaha Dum Tha, but there hardly seems to be any buzz about it, so Kalki will remain the best choice as far as Indian films are concerned. On the flip side, with the release of Deadpool & Wolverine, a lot of audience would be willing to spend their money on the Hollywood blockbuster.
