There seems to be no stopping for Nag Ashwin’s futuristic sci-fi mythological film Kalki 2898 AD in the North American circuit. The film is still 10 days away from release and 9 days away from its premiere and it is already on its way to make new records. It has already managed to cross the US $ 1.5 million in ticket sales just for its premiere shows across USA and Canada.This circuit has become one of the biggest playground for south films, thanks to the success of Bahubali series, KGF franchise, RRR, Salaar: Part 1- Ceasefire and many more.
Kalki 2898 AD has till now sold over 45,000 tickets in the USA , from over 650 locations amassing a total of US $ 1.4 million with US $ 100,000 coming from the ticket sales in Canada, thus the film is reaching the golden figure of US $ 1.5 million. It has gone on to become the fastest Indian film in the circuit to cross the 1 million mark this year. It would be interesting to see if the film will be able to break the US $ 3 million record set by SS Rajamouli, Ram Charan and Jr NTR for the premiere shows of RRR two years back. With nearly 10 days still to go for the release and more assets of the film yet to drop, (like the Bhairava anthem between Prabhas and Diljit Dosanjh), the hype for the film is only expected to go up.
In India as well, the film is expected to have a huge release, it has already got all 26 IMAX screens here and is expected to have a huge showcasing across the globe. The advance booking is yet to open in in home country, but trade is expecting the film to take a massive opening across languages given the star power of Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Prabhas, Deepika Padukone and Disha Patani.
