With its “Flexor center column”, it can quickly convert into a tabletop tripod, handheld stabilizer, or monopod. Additionally, the ball head can switch between an Arca-type quick-release camera mount and a phone clamp.
The ProMaster Chronicle is designed to provide versatility for typical photography needs. It comes in a carbon fiber version, which I tested, and an aluminum variant. The tripod features a ball head design with two U slots for vertical camera positioning, a ball friction knob, a pan lock knob, markings on the pan head, an Arca-type quick-release plate, a bubble level, and a removable control handle. The ball head allows for easy shooting in a vertical position. However, it lacks markings to indicate the selected tension and has a relatively narrow range of tightness, making it difficult to loosen the head when the camera is mounted.
One great feature of the ball head is its ability to switch between a camera and a smartphone. There is a dial near the quick-release plate that allows you to rotate the head 90 degrees, revealing a smartphone clamp. This is a convenient addition for content creators. Although it is not recommended to have the camera attached while using the smartphone clamp, it can still be useful in certain scenarios.
The Chronicle also functions as a tabletop tripod. By loosening the winged knob on the tripod head, the entire head and center column can be removed. This reveals the fixed-length legs, creating a tabletop tripod. This is perfect for shooting videos at a table or working close to the ground. The tabletop tripod can also be removed completely, exposing a smaller ball head with a sliding locking collar. While the mini ball head cannot be locked when tilted, it can be used as a small handheld stabilizer for shooting videos.
Another use for the mini tripod is as a monopod. One of the primary legs can be unscrewed from the collar, creating an instant monopod. The rubber feet on the legs are removable, and the tabletop tripod can be screwed into the bottom of the monopod leg for additional stability. The monopod form of the Chronicle is great for on-the-go photo and video capture.
Key specifications of the ProMaster Chronicle Tripod include a maximum working height of 59 inches, a minimum working height of 8.25 inches, a folded length of 23 inches, and a maximum payload of 22 pounds. The tripod is available in both aluminum and carbon fiber options.
