Microsoft has unveiled the next batch of games coming to Xbox Game Pass at the end of July. The next batch of games include Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn, Dungeons of Hinterberg and Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess. That’s compared to a much bigger and stronger PS Plus Extra and Premium line-up, which added the likes of Remnant II, Crisis Core – Final Fantasy VII – Reunion and Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord. It’s a rare win for PS Plus Extra, which has had a few months of low-profile releases. Microsoft’s defeat at the hands of PS Plus couldn’t have come at a worst time, as the company recently announced plans to increase the price of its Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and Core subscriptions, while simultaneously getting rid of the standard Xbox Game Pass for consoles. If you are a subscriber, then it’s worth checking your emails to see how the changes will affect you.
In addition to the aforementioned games, PS Plus Extra subscribers can now download and play The Jackbox Party Pack 9, Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, No More Heroes 3 and Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes Complete Edition.
That’s on top of Deadcraft and Ubisoft snowboarding game Steep, which returns to PS Plus Extra after a brief absence.
Even more games are available for PS Plus Premium subscribers, such as Job Simulator for PS VR2, action-RPG Summoner, Ratchet and Clank Size Matters and cult favourite Jeanne d’Arc.
Extra and Premium subscribers can also access the PS Plus Essential line-up of EA NHL 24, the fantastic Borderlands 3 and Among Us.
Still, it’s not all bad news for Xbox Game Pass subscribers, because all of this month’s upcoming games are day-one releases for the service.
Available from July 18, Dungeons of Hinterberg is a stylish action-RPG which combines exploration, puzzle solving and combat.
I particularly like the look of the exploration, as players journey through the Alps on snowboards, ride ziplines and travel through dungeons on minecarts.
Microsoft explains more: “Welcome to Hinterberg, a new tourist hotspot in the idyllic Austrian Alps!
“There are plenty of dungeons to find and adventures to be had in Hinterberg – will you be sent packing on your first day, or remain to become a Master Slayer? Master magic, solve puzzles, slay monsters; all this and more await you in Hinterberg!”
Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn is another potential hidden gem coming to Xbox Game Pass on July 18.
Described as an action-RPG and a Soulslite game, the upcoming release is from the studio behind the excellent Ashen game.
It takes place in a fantasy world where the Gods and their armies have invaded the land, and it’s up to you to send them packing.
“Kill all gods in the upcoming action-RPG from the developers of Ashen!” reads the official description. “Step into the boots of Nor Vanek, an elite member of the Coalition army, joined by Enki, a fox-like companion, in their quest for vengeance against the Gods.
“Weave in melee, gunpowder, and magic in rhythmic battles where combos chain together to create a deadly dance.”
Finally, Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess is a brand new action strategy game from industry heavyweights Capcom.
The game appears to feature two main phases, where during the day players purify villages and prepare for sundown, at which point the aim is to protect the Maiden against hordes of enemies.
