The second game of the second annual Indy Classic is a big one.
Today No. 4 Purdue will take on No. 1 Arizona at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. The Boilermakers are 9-1 while the Wildcats sit at 8-0.

Purdue vs. Arizona player ratings: Sizzling sophomore backcourt keys Boilers’ KO of No. 1
Fletcher Loyer had 27 points, Braden Smith had 26 and Zach Edey had 22. Edey also contributed 9 rebounds and 5 assists. The Purdue starters scored all but 4 points. For Arizona, its bench scored just 2 points.
The Boilermakers made 10 of 24 3s (42%). Loyer was 5-9 and Smith was 4-7.
For the first time in 23 years, Purdue has knocked off a No. 1 team.
Arizona’s Caleb Love hit a 3 with 1:58 left. Fletcher Loyer responded with a jumper, which made it 87-78. Loyer has 27 points.

Lance Jones made a 3-pointer with 4:55 left. It marked the first 3 for Purdue since 15:09. At 4:21, Braden Smith sunk a 3 of his own. Purdue is starting to distance itself.

Edey made a layup at 6:39, which broke Purdue’s streak of no field goals. Also, Edey has 3 fouls.

Purdue is having issues with Arizona’s 2-3 zone defense. The Boilermakers haven’t made a field goal since the 15:09 mark.

Coming out of the break, Arizona cut it to 6 points with an Oumar Ballo dunk. Caleb Furst turned it over and Ballo did it all over again. The Wildcats are back in this.

The Arizona defense is pressuring Zach Edey and it has been working as of late. In the last couple of minutes of gameplay, Edey missed three shots and turned the ball over as well. The Wildcats have scored 7 straight.

Purdue isn’t slowing down. Braden Smith sunk a 3-pointer at the 16-minute mark to give Purdue a 64-49 lead, which is the Boilermakers’ largest of the day. Caleb Love didn’t let that deter him as he made a 3-pointer of his own to make it 64-52. Fletcher Loyer, on the ensuing possession, drilled a 3 to give Purdue a 15-point lead.
Loyer has 25 points and Smith has 21 points.

Purdue and Arizona both shot well in the first half (57% for each). The Boilermakers were led by Fletcher Loyer (18 points) and Braden Smith (14 points).
Purdue took its biggest lead of the game after Braden Smith made a 3-pointer at the 1:43 mark to make it 46-34. Smith has 11 points. Both teams are playing at a very quick tempo.

Fletcher Loyer sunk back-to-back 3-pointers before the break. He has 16 in the game.

These two top teams keep trading the leads. Caleb Furst tied the game at 24-24, but Arizona’s Kylan Boswell made a jumper to give the Wildcats an advantage. On the ensuing possession, Zach Edey made a jumper with the assist to Lance Jones.
