PVL: Despite losing a set, Creamline triumphs over Akari to complete pool play sweeping

Creamline Cool Smashers made their mark in the PVL Invitational Conference by defeating Akari Chargers in a four-set match. Although it was their first set loss in the tournament, the Cool Smashers maintained their composure and secured a victory with a score of 25-19, 24-26, 26-24, 25-19. Jema Galanza and Tots Carlos played exceptionally well, while team captain Alyssa Valdez showcased her lethal form. With this win, Creamline completed a four-game sweep in Pool A and advanced to the semifinals. Galanza led the team with 16 points and seven excellent receptions, while Carlos contributed 14 points. The team will now face the top two teams from Pool B, Kurashiki Ablaze from Japan and Kinh Bac-Bac Ninh from Vietnam, in the round-robin semifinals starting next week. Despite the slow pace of their game, Galanza expressed her confidence in the team’s ability to overcome any challenges and fix their mistakes before the next round. Valdez, who recently recovered from a knee injury, had another double-digit game with 12 points and nine digs. She expressed gratitude for the opportunity to play and contribute to the team’s success. Akari Chargers, on the other hand, fought bravely despite already being relegated to the classification round. They won the first set of the match with Faith Nisperos and Dindin Santiago-Manabat leading the charge. However, Creamline responded strongly and secured the next three sets. Celine Domingo played a crucial role in the third set by saving a point and leading the team to victory. Creamline setter Jia De Guzman provided 24 excellent sets, while middle blockers Domingo and Jeanette Panaga contributed 11 points each. Manabat and Nisperos performed well for the Chargers with 18 points each, but it wasn’t enough to secure a win. Akari will now play their final group stage game against Gerflor before entering the classification stage.
