Speaking about the unconventional approach to portraying drunkenness, Madhavan said, “Aamir’s idea was that in drunk scenes, you should never act like you’re drunk.You should drink and act like you’re normal.”
He recounted the plan to start drinking by 8 PM for a 9 PM shoot, aiming to maintain a consistent level of alcohol in their systems. However, unforeseen circumstances prolonged the shoot, leading to a miscalculation of the effects of alcohol combined with the chilly Bangalore weather.
“We thought we were completely normal, except we didn’t realize we were taking hours to deliver the lines,” Madhavan humorously added.

Additionally, Madhavan shared a real-life moment of 3 Idiots by recalling a conversation with his father after failing in the 8th standard. He revealed his struggles as a student and his parents’ disappointment, especially regarding their aspirations for his career in Tata Steel. Despite the emotional turmoil, Madhavan expressed his determination to forge his own path and pursue his passions.
“My dad isn’t prone to being dramatic, but we were walking down the railway track after the last engineering college had rejected my application. He had tears in his eyes, and he asked, ‘What have I done wrong with you?’” Madhavan recounted, adding, “All I can tell you is that I won’t let you down.”
