Rajesh Khanna‘s bungalow ‘Aashirwaad‘ at Carter road is one of the most popular superstar houses in Mumbai. A superstar’s house has a very special place in the hearts of the fans and that’s evident in the way we see fans flocking outside ‘Mannat’ or Amitabh Bachchan’s bungalow ‘Jalsa’. While Khanna’s house ‘Aashirwaad’ has enjoyed immense popularity when the actor was alive, did you know that it is believed to be haunted and cursed?
There are several instances which led to that notion.The first owner of that bungalow was actor Bharat Bhushan. He was a big superstar with movies like ‘Baiju Bawra’ and ‘Mirza Ghalib’. The bungalow is believed to get misfortune upon its owner and as soon as Bharat Bhushan shifted hear, his films began flopping and he went into debts. Bharat Bhushan had to sell it then due to heavy losses.
Later, Rajendra Kumar bought the bungalow for just Rs 60,000. Manoj Kumar convinced Rajendra that it is not cursed and he shouldn’t believe rumours. Rajendra was advised to perform pooja at the bungalow before shifted. However, after he shifted there, even his films began failing and he incurred losses.
Rajesh Khanna was called the first superstar of Hindi cinema, and women used to kiss his car that would leave lipstick marks on it. That’s the kind of popularity he enjoyed. The actor bought it from Rajendra Kumar at a price of Rs 3 and half lakh. His films subsequently stopped working and he started getting replaced by other actors. He separated from his wife Dimple Kapadia, though they never were officially divorced. His health was also deteriorating as he got diagnosed with Cancer in 2011 and passed away in 2012. After he death, an industrialist bought the house for Rs 90 crore.
