Randy Meisner, Co-Founder of the Eagles, Passes Away at Age 77

Randy Meisner, a founding member of the Eagles, passed away at the age of 77 on Wednesday night in Los Angeles due to complications from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, according to a statement released by the band on Thursday. Meisner, known for his high harmonies on hits like “Take It Easy” and “The Best of My Love,” as well as his lead vocals on “Take It to the Limit,” had been dealing with various health issues in recent years. In 2016, he experienced personal tragedy when his wife accidentally shot and killed herself. Meisner had also been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and struggled with alcoholism. Despite these difficulties, Meisner’s contributions to the Eagles were monumental, and he played an integral role in the band’s early success. The Eagles, known for their country rock sound and later transition to hard rock, released a string of hit singles and albums throughout the 1970s, including “Desperado,” “Hotel California,” and “Life In the Fast Lane.” Despite criticism from some music critics, the Eagles achieved immense popularity, with their albums “Hotel California” and “Their Greatest Hits (1971-1975)” becoming two of the best-selling albums in history. Meisner left the band after the release of “Hotel California” due to personal and health issues, and was replaced by Timothy B. Schmit. As a solo artist, Meisner never reached the same level of success as the Eagles, but had hits with songs like “Hearts On Fire” and “Deep Inside My Heart.” The Eagles reunited in 1994 and continued to tour, with Schmit taking over Meisner’s role in the band. Meisner joined the group for their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction in 1998 and had been part of the touring act World Classic Rockers. Meisner is survived by his three children from his two marriages.
