Red Bull Sets New Record as Verstappen Secures Comfortable Victory at Hungarian GP 2023

The 12th round of the 2023 Formula One season came from the 4.381 km long Hungaroring circuit in Mogyoród for the Hungarian Grand Prix. After moving past pole-sitter Hamilton on Turn 1 itself, it was Max Verstappen who sealed a comfortable win at the Hungarian GP – his seventh consecutive win this season! The win also helped Red Bull Racing set a new Formula One record.

It was a disappointing race start for Hamilton after being overtaken by Max Verstappen on the first corner itself, and then later by both the McLarens on a few turns later.

Oscar Piastri’s phenonemal race start saw him get the better of his teammate Norris, moving to P2, only behind Verstappen. Seems like Formula One fans would have to wait a little bit longer to witness another on-track battle between Hamilton and Verstappen.

Pierre Gasly’s and Esteban Ocon’s race ended on Lap 1 itself after the two came into contact, meaning a double DNF for Alpine. Replays showed Daniel Ricciardo’s AlphaTauri slightly tipping into Ocon’s car, who turned into his own teammate, bringing both of their races to a dreadful end. Despite having a sensational Qualifying yesterday and starting the race from P5, a poor race start saw Zhou Guanyu drop to the back of the grid.
After taking the lead into turn 1, it was Max Verstappen who led every lap to the end of the Grand Prix, marking his ninth win of the season and his 44th career win. The win also makes it Red Bull Racing’s 12th consecutive win, a new Formula One record, moving clear of McLaren’s record of 11 back-to-back wins in 1988. Verstappen’s teammate Sergio Perez managed to move up from P9 to third, completing the podium. The two were separated by Norris, securing his second consecutive podium finish.
