Report: Orioles express interest in trading for Mets’ Justin Verlander

The Baltimore Orioles have entered the mix in the Justin Verlander sweepstakes, according to MLB Network‘s Jon Morosi.

Morsoi reported that Baltimore is engaged in trade talks with multiple sellers, including the Detroit Tigers.

Verlander has been reported to be the target of the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, with a preference to return to Houston. He also has a full no-trade clause, so any deal needs to be approved by the former MVP.

The reigning AL Cy Young winner is in the first season of a two-year, $86.66 million contract signed last December and is reportedly available for trade after the New York Mets fell out of the National League playoff race.

With one of the top farm systems in baseball, the Orioles have been rumoured as a potential landing spot for some of the top trade targets at the deadline. With a win over the Toronto Blue Jays Monday night, Baltimore improved to 65-41 — the best record in the American League.

After a slow start, Verlander has looked much better in his last nine starts, posting a 1.95 ERA over 55.1 innings of work over that span.
