Delhi: Yamuna River Approaching Danger Level Again After Rainfall in Northern Hill States
The water level in the Yamuna River in Delhi has been consistently close to the danger mark of 205.33 metres for the past few days. This comes after floodwaters breached the city on July 13, leaving several areas inundated and roads waterlogged. On Saturday morning, the water level dropped below the threshold, but heavy rains in northern hill states, such as Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, could cause a surge in the water level again, resulting in delays in the rehabilitation efforts for flood-affected areas in Delhi. The India Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rain in these states until July 25. The Central Water Commission’s data shows a drop in the water level, but it may decrease further before the impact of rain is evident. Experts warn that heavy rains could slow down the rehabilitation process and affect the water supply in the city. The floods have already caused significant damage, leaving thousands homeless and impacting property and businesses.
