Robert Downey Jr‘s return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe was met with much cheer and applause when the big reveal was made last month at ComicCon. However, it seems that the internet is not too pleased with the actor getting re-cast as the ‘Fantastic Four’ villain Doctor Doom.
The actor has become the subject of trolling on social media, with fans poking fun at his new role.The online frenzy began when fans started circulating videos and images featuring Downey Jr.’s face morphed on to various iconic MCU characters, including Chadwick Boseman‘s Black Panther, Chris Evans‘ Captain America, Chris Hemsworth‘s Thor and even Scarlett Johansson‘s Black Widow among others.

Another even shared a photo of RDJ from his film Tropic Thunder and wrote, “First look at RDJ as T’Challa in Avengers: Doomsday.”

Downey Jr.’s return to the MCU has been a constant topic of discussion since his departure as Tony Stark/Iron Man in ‘Avengers: Endgame’, that saw his character die in an act of sacrifice while battling Thanos. However, the latest news of his return as a villain in the Multiverse Saga has been met with unexpected reactions.

RDJ will play the role of Doctor Doom for two films helmed by the Russo Brothers. His role in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ will reportedly set the ball rolling for the magnum opus ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ that will reported see the culmination of the Multiverse Saga.

While the actor has not responded to these latest memes, he will certainly be having the last laugh as he is expected to earn over $80 million for his role as the supervillain. The actor was previously paid around $75 million for his turn as Iron Man in ‘Avengers: Endgame’.
