LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAYS will last through Wednesday as rounds of storms rumble through. Torrential rainfall is likely, with an increased flash flood threat and a few severe storms possible.

TIMELINE:

SUNDAY NIGHT: Scattered showers and thunderstorms will be with us to start the evening, as temperatures will be in the 70s. We will likely get a break in the rain later on into the evening, with more scattered showers and thunderstorms arriving during the overnight hours. Any shower or storm could produce locally heavy rainfall, especially southwest of Lexington. It will be a very muggy night with lows in the upper 60s to around 70 degrees.

MONDAY: We will start out with scattered showers across our area as temperatures rise fairly quickly into the 70s. It will remain cloudy, with a few showers possible into the afternoon, with scattered showers and storms returning late in the day into the evening. Any shower or storm will be capable of producing heavy rainfall, with one or two storms on the strong to severe side. Damaging winds and an isolated tornado are the threats with any severe storm. Otherwise, it will be a warm and very humid day with highs in the low to mid 80s.

MONDAY NIGHT: Scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue into the evening and become more widespread overnight. Again, any shower or storm will be capable of producing heavy rainfall, with one or two storms on the strong to severe side. Damaging winds and an isolated tornado are the threats with any severe storm. It will be a very muggy night with overnight lows in the upper 60s to low 70s.

TUESDAY: We will start out the day with clusters of showers and thunderstorms, which could contain one or two strong to severe storms. The threat of scattered showers and storms continues throughout the morning into the afternoon. Any shower or storm could produce locally heavy rainfall once again. It will be a very warm and tropically humid day with highs in the mid to upper 80s, feeling like the mid 90s at the heat of the day.

TUESDAY NIGHT: A few showers and storms will linger into the evening with partly cloudy skies. More scattered showers and storms will look to arrive overnight, capable of producing heavy rainfall and one or two strong to severe storms. It will be very warm and very muggy overnight, with lows in the upper 60s to low 70s.

WEDNESDAY: A few showers and storms may still be possible in the morning with partly cloudy skies. We start to dry out some into the afternoon, with a stray shower or storm possible. It will be a hot day and oppressively humid, with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s. The heat index will be a factor, as it will feel like the upper 90s to low 100s at the heat of the day.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy skies will prevail for the evening, with scattered showers and thunderstorms overnight. It will be another very warm and very muggy night, with lows in the low to mid 70s.

Rainfall through Thursday morning looks to range anywhere from 1 to 2.5 inches, with locally heavier rainfall totals.
