Sabrent announced a new Universal Docking Station designed to provide a desktop home for laptops but it will work with just about any USB-C device, including tablets, smartphones, or other types of portable computers.
The main selling point of Sabrent’s new peripheral is that it is loaded with ports. On the front, the Universal Docking Station features two USB 3.2 Gen 1×1 USB-A ports that can deliver up to 5V/1.5A of power as well as a SD card reader, a microSD card reader, a 3.5mm headphone and mic jack, and a 10Gbps USB-C port.
On the back there are even more ports: two USB-A 2.0 ports, a dedicated set of mic and audio out ports, two more USB-C 10Gbps ports (one that can deliver enough power to charge a laptop while the other has display output support), an Ethernet port that supports up to 1,000Mbps gigabit (1GbE), and two full-size HDMI 2.0 and DisplayPort 1.4 inputs. Note, HDMI 2.0 is capped at 4K 60p.
Display output requires DisplayLink drivers available for Microsoft Windows 7+, macOS 10.6+, Android 5.0+, ChromeOS R51+, and Ubuntu 14.04. Sabrent adds that other Linux-based systems “may” also work.
“If you have been searching for a quality, do-everything USB-C dock, we have the perfect solution. The Sabrent USB-C Universal Docking Station has near-limitless potential with a wide variety of ports and capabilities to enhance your computing experience. Enjoy and get the most out of your laptop, ultrabook, Chromebook, Android phone or tablet, MacBook, Apple iPhone or iPad, and more with this incredibly compact and featureful docking station,” Sabrent says
“We’ve made docking simpler than ever by including a 120W power adapter and a 70cm USB-C to USB-C cable. The sleek design is also topped with a convenient cradle and LED status lights for maximum usability.”
Sabrent’s new Universal Docking Station is platform agnostic and should work with any laptop including Chromebooks, Windows-based laptops, and Apple MacBooks. The company also notes that Android phones and tablets as well as any USB-C iPad or iPhone will also connect without issue.
The Sabrent Universal Docking Station is available starting this week for $289. Sabrent did not have it listed on its web store at the time of publication, but instead currently lists the dock on Amazon.
