Saira Banu recently completed 62 years in the industry. The actress celebrated the anniversary of her debut movie ‘Junglee’ and recalled memories of shooting the film. She also spoke about Shammi Kapoorand her equation with him. The actress had shared that during a song shoot for ‘Junglee’, she got nervous due to the crowds that showed up. But Shammi played a prank of scolding her and that made her regain her confidence to perform.Saira called him a ‘darling’ for pushing her and helping her get over her fear!
Now in her latest post, Saira has treated her fans with an unseen video from her silver wedding anniversary celebrations with Dilip Kumar. Shammi Kapoor and his wife Neila Devi had attended the function and only after Kapoor arrived, Kumar performed the varmala ceremony again. Saira spoke about Shammi and said, “There are so many interesting anecdotes about “JUNGLEE” for Shammiji would keep creating stories, he was particularly like a Pied Piper with so many pretty ladies lined up and following him around wherever we shot. Once our shooting at the Studio in Bombay was suddenly cancelled because Shammiji was not well, so Appaji, Sultan bhai, and I took off to the city at Eros Theatre to see a foreign movie and what do we see.”
She spoke about a time when Shammi once got into a competition of having spicy Tabasco Sauce. She added, “Another time in Srinagar the Stars and unit were having lunch at “Oberoi Palace Hotel” and of course next to Shammiji sat a sophisticated and very fashionable lady fan and her husband. At the table, there were bottles of Tabasco Sauce and suddenly a conversation brewed up between Shammiji and the Lady. Soon enough their conversation got into a challenging one where it was ‘Yes I Can do it’ and from the Lady ‘No You Can’t do it’. Then Shammiji poured the whole bottle of Tabasco Sauce into a glass and drank it right down. It was like fire water and heaven knows what got into him to do this but he was soon bashing the table in anger and pain and vomitted. Thereupon the shooting was cancelled for Two Days. What a lark!”
Further spilling the tea about Shammi’s bonding with Dilip Kumar, Saira said, “I am so happy that years later Sahib and Shammiji came together for that wonderful Subhash Ghai’s movie “VIDHAATA”. It was a joy to see them working together, Two Maestros at their art together! They shot a song in Lonavala and it was a joy for me to watch them and spend those days where they ate together, lived together, and shared their work. It was a blessing for me to experience.”
