Second person charged over alleged murder of man found ‘shot dead and buried’ in Cessnock

A second person has been charged over the alleged murder of a man in the NSW Hunter region earlier this year.

John Simpson was allegedly shot dead and buried at a property near Cessnock.

The 42-year-old went missing from Laguna, about 40km from Cessnock, in April, and his body was found five weeks later.

Strike Force Blakeley was established by the homicide squad to investigate.

On Tuesday, a 49-year-old man was arrested at Cessnock Police Station.

He was charged with accessory after the fact of murder and refused bail to appear before Cessnock Local Court on Wednesday.

In July, a 34-year-old man was extradited from Victoria and charged with murder and possessing an authorised firearm.

He remains before the courts.

Investigations continue.
