Who is Ayesha Siddiqui?
Just days before his wedding with Sania Mirza in 2010, a woman named Ayesha Siddiqui from Hyderabad claimed that Shoaib had married her in 2002. Then 29 years old, Ayesha Siddiqui was a teacher by profession and she was also known as Maha Siddiqui. She had filed a case with the police against Shoaib for infidelity and abandonment. As proofs of her marriage with Shoaib Malik, Ayesha Siddiqui had produced video clips of her wedding. But Shoaib had initially denied all allegations against him made by Ayesha.
However, in an interview with The Economic Times (ET), Shoaib Malik had accused Ayesha Siddiqui of catfishing him. For the uninitiated, catfishing is a process of luring a person into a relationship by creating a fictional persona online. Shoaib said that he had never met Ayesha in person and they had a telephonic nikkah. They had exchanged photographs but she had sent misleading pictures, which were not hers. “I walked out of my house one morning in June 2002 and went to my friend’s shop and called from there. I got a nikah nama, signed it, thinking the girl I was marrying was the one in the photographs,” Shoaib told ET.
He further said that it was in 2005 when he came to know about being mislead when his brother-in-law’s nephews said that a teacher named Maha Siddiqui in Saudi Arabia claimed to be his wife. He had then confronted Ayesha, who admitted of sending him wrong pictures of herself.
Meanwhile, Ayesha’s family had a different story to tell. They claimed that they had thrown a reception in Pakistan after Ayesha and Shoaib’s wedding. They also claimed that Shoaib had consummated his marriage with Ayesha, and she also had a miscarriage- proofs of which were given to the police.
Eventually, just days before getting married to Sania Mirza, Shoaib Malik gave a divorce to Ayesha, as per reports. The mediation between the two was done with the help of 10-15 people. Shoaib had also paid Ayesha an alimony of INR 15 crores.
Shoaib Malik and Sania Mirza
Shoaib Malik then married Sania Mirza in a grand wedding ceremony in Hyderabad, India on April 10, 2024, followed by a Walima ceremomy in Sialkot, Pakistan. The couple set their base in Dubai and had a son named Izhaan Mirza Malik in 2018. But with trouble in their married life, rumours were rife about the couple heading for a divorce. Now, after 14 years of marriage, Sania’s family has said in a public statement that Sania had given a unilateral divorce, called Khula, to Shoaib a few months ago.
