Throwback footage of Matt Shirvington dancing in the early 2000s has resurfaced.
The Sunrise co-host was a contestant on Dancing With the Stars in 2004, with his The Mask routine leading to his elimination from the competition.

Shirvo was chatting with current Dancing finalists Phil Burton, Emily Weir and Paulini Curuenavuli when Sunrise fill-in co-host Monique Wright said they were in the presence of “dancing royalty”.
“Who’s that?” Shirvo asked, before realising she was referring to him.
“It was amazing,” Shirvo recalled of his Dancing experience.
Footage showed a younger Shirvo shimmying in a “Seinfeld-style” puffed shirt, holding two maracas that were later tossed to the side of the stage.

“I convinced (dance partner) Nat to do this,” Shirvo said.
“It’s from the (Jim Carrey) movie The Mask and it got us kicked off.
“The Seinfeld puffy shirt — look at those sleeves! But back then I said I need to wear a shirt like this and they said ‘Are you serious, we don’t have the budget for that!’.”
“That’s a pretty big set of maracas you’re holding there,” Phil observed as Emily added how “gracefully” he later tossed the instruments to the side of the stage.
Shirvo revealed he “actually asked to backflip in that and the producer came out when I rehearsed it because I landed on one leg, just”.
“And they said that, (for) live (broadcast), don’t do it,” he said.
