Florida: In what would come as a surprise for many, Shubman Gill and Avesh Khan – who were the Reserves in the Indian T20 WC 2024 squad – are set to be released after the match against Canada on Saturday in Miami. As per the report on CricketNext, this was not the plan initially. In what is a little suspicious is that the other travelling Reserves Rinku Singh and Khaleel Ahmed would continue to stay with the team. There is no official word on this as yet.

“It’s a call by the Indian team management. As per the original plan, both Gill and Avesh were supposed to travel for the entire tournament but the management has now decided to release them,” says a well-placed source.

Rinku and Shubman were part of the Indian training sessions in New York. They were also spotted in the stands during the game against Pakistan.

Rohit Sharma’s team looks good as they have won three-out-of-three in New York ensuring they seal the qualification berth for the Super 8 stage. In the game against Canada, the Indian team could experiment a little before taking on Afghanistan in their opening Super 8 clash in Barbados on June 20.

India’s likely Super8 fixtures:

Vs Afghanistan – 20th June (Barbados).

Vs Ban/Ned/Nepal – 22nd June (Antigua).

Vs Australia – 24th June (St Lucia).

Today is a rest day for the squad after the travel and they will only train if weather permits on June 14. There is a high possibility that the game gets washed out as there as flash flood emergency issued across Miami.
