Sirui’s T2.9 Saturn Series Anamorphic Lenses are ‘World’s Lightest’

Following the success of its 35mm lens, Sirui has announced two new full-frame carbon fiber anamorphic lenses for its Saturn Series available in 50mm and 75mm focal lengths. The new trio of lenses all weigh less than 500 grams, making them the “world’s lightest” full-frame anamorphic lenses.

According to the company, the new high-ratio T2.9 manual lenses will launch with six optional mounts including Sony E-mount, Canon RF-mount, Fujifilm X-mount, Nikon Z-mount, Panasonic/Leica L-mount, and DJI DL-mount formats. The lenses can provide either a classic blue or natural flare in a constant 1.6x squeeze ratio for an oval and elongated bokeh pattern and strong compression to separate the subject from the background and foreground of the frame.

Each of the three lenses feature a minimum focus distance of three feet (0.9 meters). Lens lengths vary depending on the camera mount ranging from 3.9 to 4.6 inches (100 to 116 millimeters) with a maximum weight ranging from 390 to 472 grams (0.9 to 1.0 pounds). Further, the filter thread is 58mm for the 35mm lens and 62mm for the 50mm and 75mm primes.

The 50mm version of the lens includes 17 elements in 12 groups with 10 aperture blades while the 75mm version has 15 elements in 11 groups with 14 aperture blades which the company says allows them to render a high center sharpness with low chromatic aberration and minimal focus breathing for a cinematic look and feel. All three lenses feature an aperture range of T2.9 to T16.

The front barrel of the lenses are made with lightweight carbon fiber and high-precision glass molding aspherical elements have been used to reduce overall lens weight within each version of the lens. This reduced weight and small form factor makes the Sirui Saturn Full-frame Carbon Fiber Anamorphic Lens ideal for handheld, gimbal, and even FPV drone or DJI Ronin 4D mounted shots. Swapping lenses out should be fast and easy to do as the focus and aperture control rings are located in identical gear positions across the set.

Sirui says when using the natural flare version of the lenses, the colors of the flares will change with the light source, while the classic blue flare version provides a more sci-fi/mystery feel. “With this lens kit, you get two flare options tailored to your taste.”
