Sofia Pizza Restaurant in Melbourne shut down for ‘unsafe’ and ‘unsanitary’ conditions

A Melbourne restaurant has been shut down by the local council due to “unsafe” and “unsanitary” conditions.

Sofia Pizza Restaurant, located on Pier Promenade in Frankston, was given a temporary closure order by Frankston City Council on Friday.

The restaurant’s premises were deemed to be “in an unclean or unsanitary condition and in a state of disrepair”, the order said.

The preparation of food at the venue was also done “in a manner that makes it likely the food is unsafe or unsuitable”.

The restaurant has been ordered not to trade again until these issues are resolved.

Sofia Pizza Restaurant has not made any public comments about the closure.

7NEWS understands the restaurant had multiple bookings for Father’s Day, leaving families without a place to celebrate on Sunday.
