Sonos, the audio manufacturer best known for its speakers, is looking to expand its offerings with headphones, earbuds, and a set-top box. The headphones, which have been in the works for a long time, could be released as soon as next year, i.e., 2024, and a pair of truly wireless earbuds might also tag along.
With its upcoming over-the-ear headphones, said to be priced at above $400, Sonos plans to take on the likes of Sony, Bose, and Apple, some of the names that happen to have offerings in the same price range.Sonos’ CEOPatrick Spence expects that the new product categories, including headphones, will account for a “large portion” of revenue by the second half of 2024.
Bloomberg reports that the headphones are slated to be released by April next year. These headphones will have the feature to sync with Sonos speakers and have a voice command that will allow the wearer to navigate between songs. These would come in two colour options – black and white.
Aside from the headphones, Sonos is also said to be developing a pair of in-ear truly wireless earbuds.
Next up could be a set-top box, which will put it in locks with Roku and Apple. The set-top box will come with an Android-based operating system; its primary use will be running streaming apps. As reported by Bloomberg, the streaming box could hit the market by the end of 2024 or early 2024. The audio manufacturer is in talks with Netflix and other entertainment companies to bring them aboard its new platform.
While Sonos plans to foray into new categories, it is not forgetting its speaker lineup. Sonso is working on the next generation of its Bluetooth speakers – including a second-gen Roam speaker, Arc soundbar, and a new subwoofer.
There is also a more Era 100 speaker in the works, which might come with an ethernet port and will be focused towards businesses rather than home, expected to be priced at $1,200, up from the $900 for the current model.
