South Sydney Rabbitohs sign Anthony Milford

Fallen Broncos star Anthony Milford has found a new home for 2022, officially signing with the South Sydney Rabbitohs.

The move will see Milford, once the star playmaker at Red Hill, link up with former Brisbane assistant Jason Demetriou, who will take control of the Bunnies next season.

“We’re really excited to have Anthony joining our club in 2022,” Souths head of football Mark Ellison said.

“He comes to us highly recommended by Wayne and ‘JD’ who both worked with him at the Broncos where he played a leading role in taking them to the 2015 grand final.”

Milford was a revelation in the six jersey for the Broncos in that season, his first under Bennett after leaving the Raiders, where he had mostly played fullback.

He continued to improve each week and was one of the best players on the field in that heartbreaking golden point loss – but the departure of Bennett after the 2018 season saw his form dip remarkably.

“At his best he is one of the most electrifying players in the game and we’re certain he will put his best foot forward with our club next season,” Ellison said.

“He has a tremendous amount of experience for a man that’s only 27-years-of-age, we believe he has his best football in front of him.”

Ellison also highlighted the opportunity for Milford to work with several former gun NRL halves in John Morris, John Sutton and Ben Hornby on the coaching staff, as well as reviving that Demetriou link.

“We think a change of club into our system could see us unlock those brilliant performances from Anthony that all rugby league fans remember fondly.”

The Bunnies had a huge cloud hanging over their halves situation for 2022, with Adam Reynolds going the other way in a multi-year deal to become the seven at Brisbane.
