After years of being represented by an importer in Spain and Portugal, Porsche officially launched its Porsche España subsidiary in 1984, now called Porsche Ibérica. To celebrate the division’s 40th anniversary, Porsche has launched the new 911 Carrera GTS Cuarenta Edition, which has a super special look inspired by the Iberian Peninsula.
Alexander Fabig, Vice President of Individualization & Classic, says the Cuarenta Edition was designed as if it “would have been ordered by a Spanish or Portuguese customer 40 years ago and that is still fashionable and desirable today.” The Sonderwunsch team worked closely with their colleagues in Spain and Portugal to learn about Iberian culture and bring that inspiration to the car, and the result is one of the coolest modern 911s.
It starts on the outside with Quercusverde paint, a newly developed shade inspired by the hue of holm oak leaves, a type of tree found all over Spain and Portugal that’s also known as Quercus ilex. The non-metallic color is set off by Black Satin stone guards on the rear fenders, silver and aluminum exterior trim, and cross-spoke wheels in Black Satin with a Brilliant Silver rim as a callback to ‘80s wheels. Porsche created a special badge for the Cuarenta that features an illustration of a Quercus tree; hand-painted in Cremewhite, it’s mounted on the rear grille, and the B-pillars also have slim badges in the same color that have the model name.
The Cuarenta’s interior is where things get really fun. A two-tone Truffle Brown and Cohiba Brown color scheme is used throughout, with the darker Truffle color used on the top of the dash and door panels as well as the carpet and other lower sections. Porsche says the browns are reminiscent of the work of guarnicioneros, the saddlery craftsmen of the Iberian Peninsula. The seat centers have incredible tartan inserts that use Cohiba Brown, Crayon (light gray), Truffle Brown and a green similar to the Quercusverde paint.
Accentuating the tartan is Crayon piping on the seats and hand-made Crayon cross-stitching on the dashboard and door panels, and the seatbelts are also finished in Crayon. The Cuarenta script is embossed in the headrests, and “Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur” is embossed in the center console. Other special touches include aluminum door sills with the Cuarenta name illuminated in Cremewhite, door puddle lights with the Quercus tree logo, a color-matched key with the model name, and a leather-matched key pouch with the tree logo. Customers will also get a custom indoor car cover in Quercusverde with Cremewhite logos and lettering
Porsche doesn’t say how many of the 911 Cuarenta Edition will be built, only that it will be offered to “a small group” of customers in the Iberian Peninsula. Porsche Ibérica will be keeping one of the units to preserve and put on display.
