Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection seemed like an easy win for developer Aspyr Media when it launched earlier this week. Featuring two all-time classic Star Wars games from the early 2000s, the PlayStation, Xbox, PC and Nintendo Switch collection felt like a guaranteed hit, provided the servers were up and bugs were kept to a minimum. Unfortunately, however, the launch of Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection didn’t quite go to plan. Releasing to mostly negative reviews on Steam, fans complained of a lack of servers, high ping and general game crashes. Even more frustrating was the lack of acknowledgement from Aspyr Media, as the company remained silent on social media platforms. Following a nightmare launch that was plagued by issues, Aspyr Media has finally released a statement about Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection, explaining what went wrong.
In a post on the studio’s website, the Aspyr team thanked fans for their support and promised to continue efforts to fix the problems.
“We’d like to thank the Battlefront community for their overwhelming support and feedback for the STAR WARS Battlefront Classic Collection release,” reads an Aspyr statement.
“At launch, we experienced critical errors with our network infrastructure. The result was incredibly high ping, matchmaking errors, crashes, and servers not appearing in the browser.
“Since launch, we’ve been working to address these issues and increase network stability, and we will continue our efforts until our network infrastructure is stabilised to prevent further outages.”
While the lack of apology is a little surprising, the statement suggests that the studio is aware of the cause of the issues and is working on a fix.
This means Battlefront fans can expect a boatload of updates and hotfixes to launch in the next few weeks.
Fans are also encouraged to report any issues by filling out a request form on the Aspyr website.
With a single-player campaign, support for 64-person multiplayer, nearly 40 ground maps, plus a further selection set in space, Battlefront Classic Collection has the potential to be a real smash, so here’s hoping Aspyr turns it around.
