Starya Mobility is a startup based in Bengaluru that specializes in converting existing scooters into electric vehicles (EV). The company holds four patents for various aspects of its technology and has developed an app to help users keep track of important information about their scooters, such as ride history, mileage, and power.
Starya Mobility recently raised $2 million in funding from Ah! Ventures, Exedy Clutch India, and others. The company was founded in July 2018 with the goal of making advanced EV technology affordable for everyone. CEO Ravikumar Jagannath explained that their product is India’s most powerful indigenized electric retrofit kit, with 6-6.5 kilowatts of power, a top speed of 85 kilometers per hour, and acceleration from 0 to 40 in 3.6 seconds. The kit is compatible with most gearless scooters and has been approved by the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI). Starya Mobility plans to obtain ARAI approvals for various scooter models in the coming months.
Customers can have their scooters converted into EVs by Starya Mobility in two ways. They can either pay Rs 90,000 to become the complete owner of the conversion, or for the first 500,000 customers, they have a plan where customers pay 40% of the cost upfront for the battery pack and charger, and then subscribe to the propulsion kit, Bluetooth logger, and app for one rupee per kilometer for the next 50,000 kilometers. This allows customers to pay only for the service they use, similar to how people pay for electricity or prepaid mobile phone recharges. Recharging the scooter can be done through the app, where users can input any amount and travel a corresponding number of kilometers.
