If you’ve never had the chance to play any of the Dark Souls games, then you should hurry over to Steam right now. All three games in the Dark Souls franchise are currently available as part of the latest weekly sale, meaning you can buy one of the greatest gaming trilogies ever made at a heavily reduced price. Even more savings can be made by visiting CD Keys, where Dark Souls 3 game keys are currently selling for just £18.99. That’s a saving of more than 60% on the original asking price. Dark Souls 3 is the highest-rated game in the series, earning a 94% user score on Steam. That’s much higher than the 85% Steam rating for Dark Souls 2, and marginally higher than the 90% score for Dark Souls Remastered. It’s the perfect game to play while you wait for Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, which launches in June. At £18.99 from CD Keys (below), Dark Souls 3 is also a lot cheaper than the upcoming Elden Ring DLC.
While I prefer the original Dark Souls, the third and final game in the trilogy is a close second.
Though not quite on par with the world design of the first game, Dark Souls 3’s interconnected areas are a joy to explore.
It’s also got some of the most memorable boss battles in the entire Souls series, not to mention some fantastic side quests.
If you enjoy the main campaign then I would also recommend purchasing the Season Pass, because the DLC is arguably even better. (For the record, the Season Pass is also available in the sale, which ends on May 16.)
The final boss of the second DLC is quite possibly the best battle in a game already littered with memorable encounters.
And even though developer FromSoftware has surpassed it with visual delights like Elden Ring and Demon’s Souls, the Dark Souls 3 graphics hold up incredibly well for a game that’s nearly a decade old.
As an added bonus, the PC version is Steam Deck verified, which means you could potentially play Dark Souls 3 on the go.
I’m not entirely convinced that’s a good idea, however, because you might just throw your Steam Deck on the floor after countless failed attempts at besting the Nameless King. You have been warned!
In addition to Dark Souls 3, Steam has also reduced the price of Dark Souls Remastered and Dark Souls 2.
Dark Souls Remastered is an absolute must-play, featuring some of the best game design ever seen.
It also provides a masterclass in environmental storytelling, with every item and location giving players more clues about exactly what is going on in the mysterious land of Lordran.
Dark Souls 2 is perhaps the black sheep of the series, although it does still have its fans.
The Scholar of the First Sin edition is undoubtedly the one to buy, making various quality of life improvements while also adding content.
