Unlike Michael Jordan, Curry’s life story does not possess the same level of intrigue, making it difficult to create a compelling documentary solely based on his experiences. The secondary characters in Curry’s life, such as his father, grandmother, and coach McKillop, prove to be more captivating than Curry himself.
Ultimately, “Underrated” falls short of being a thought-provoking documentary. It relies on familiar tropes and fails to offer any new insights into Curry’s life. While it attempts to humanize him through personal anecdotes and footage, it feels forced and lacks substance. A true documentary on Curry would explore more controversial topics, including his marriage, inner turmoil within the Warriors organization, his stance on social issues, and the careful curation of his public image.
