Stephen Miller’s America First Legal is accusing Kellogg’s of engaging in illegal, race-based discrimination and politicizing and sexualizing its products. The conservative legal group, founded by the former senior adviser for President Donald Trump, has filed a federal civil rights complaint with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) calling for an investigation into Kellogg’s policies and programs that it claims are infused with “woke ideology.”
Kellogg’s joins a growing list of groups and brands that have faced backlash from conservatives in recent months, including Bud Light, Target, the Los Angeles Dodgers, and Cracker Barrel.
In a letter to the EEOC, America First Legal’s senior counselor Reed D. Rubinstein alleges that Kellogg’s engages in unlawful employment practices by seeking to balance its workforce based on race, color, national origin, and sex. The letter also highlights several diversity initiatives at the company, including goals for underrepresented talent and gender parity in management positions.
America First Legal argues that the company’s employment practices are based on “equity,” which it describes as a euphemism for illegal discrimination. In another letter to Kellogg’s CEO Steve Cahillane, the legal group accuses company management of hijacking the brand to push an extreme political and social agenda.
Kellogg’s responded to the allegations, stating that it is committed to complying with employment laws and has policies in place to prevent workplace discrimination. The company aims to better reflect the diversity of its consumers and strengthen its inclusive culture.
America First Legal’s complaint against Kellogg’s comes shortly after it sued Target on behalf of an investor who claimed the company misrepresented the adequacy of its risk monitoring during backlash over LGBTQ-themed products.
