New Delhi: Many schools in Bengaluru received bomb threats by email Friday morning, prompting authorities to evacuate nearly 5,000 children in order to comb the campuses for explosive devices.
The police and bomb units searched the schools, including those in Whitefield, Koramangala, Basaveshnagar, Yelahanka, and Sadashivanagar, after the emails claimed explosives had been planted in the buildings.
Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara said he had information of 15 schools being threatened, and warned of strict action against the perpetrators. “Such threats were issued last year too, but we cannot take any risk. We are inspecting them and taking all precautionary measures. We are looking into all aspects,” he said.

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar also visited one of the schools to check the surveillance operation as police scoured the building.
Several schools in Bengaluru had got similar bomb threats last year, which later turned out to be a hoax.
The Karnataka police registered cases under the charge of cyber terrorism but no arrests were made.
In January this year, the National Public School had also got a similar threat mail.
