Taapsee Pannu is a versatile actress who has made a significant mark in both South Indian and Hindi cinema. Interestingly, the actress began her acting career with Telugu and Tamil films before transitioning to Bollywood.
During her conversation with ANI, Taapsee was asked why Southern film industries seem to be doing better than Hindi cinema, the actress explained that audiences in Hindi-speaking regions are only exposed to successful Southern films and aren’t aware of those that leave theatres within the first week. She pointed out that films fail in the South as well, and many don’t last beyond 3-4 days in theatres. However, since people outside those states don’t follow every release, they might not realize that the ratio of hits and flops is quite similar.
The ‘Pink’ actress highlighted the difference in movie-viewing culture between the South and Hindi film industries, stating that in the South, watching movies is almost a religious activity, with audiences being passionate movie lovers who treat it as a ritual. In contrast, she noted that it is relatively more challenging to draw Hindi-speaking audiences out of their homes to watch a film.
When discussing the work culture in both industries, Taapsee was asked if the Southern film industry is more organized and disciplined. She clarified that, based on her experience in both industries, this isn’t necessarily true. She recalled that when she began working in the South, before her Hindi film debut, she didn’t receive bound scripts but rather daily dialogue sheets, which contrasts with the more structured approach often seen in Bollywood.
Taapsee Pannu reflected on her early experiences in the Southern film industry, mentioning that during her time there, she never received bound scripts for any of her films. Instead, she was given scenes, with many aspects changing on set. She acknowledged that things might have improved now, but that was her experience at the time. She added that even filmmakers like Anurag Kashyap, who are known for making changes on set, provided her with a proper script.
