BYD has provided a sneak peek at its new off-roader from the Fang Cheng Bao brand with a teaser video. The SUV, called the Bao 5, showcases a boxy design similar to popular models like the Land Rover Defender and Ford Bronco. The brand’s logo is prominently displayed on the front and features a full-width LED daytime running light. The rear of the vehicle includes a side-hinged tailgate, vertically oriented tail lights, and a panoramic sunroof. The interior has yet to be revealed, but previous spy photos suggest a luxurious cabin with leather-wrapped surfaces. The Bao 5 is expected to be priced between 400-600,000 yuan (A$84,060 to $126,091). Technical specifications have not been disclosed, but Chinese media reports indicate a 5m length, a 2.8m wheelbase, and a 405kW dual-motor plug-in hybrid powertrain with a range of over 1200km. BYD’s new DiSus-P suspension system, featured in the Yangwang U8, offers up to 200mm of travel and can lift all four wheels simultaneously. The Fang Cheng Bao brand, along with the Yangwang brand, will be positioned below the Denza brand in terms of pricing. BYD’s expansion plans include entering markets like Australia and Europe, focusing on electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles.
