Tata Motors: New Tata Safari, Harrier: What will change, key differences, expected pricing

Tata Motors recently teased the facelifted versions of its Safari and Harrier SUVs, which are expected to debut soon in India. Both SUVs are expected to receive a number of cosmetic and feature updates, while the underlying powertrain is likely to remain the same. Here, we take a look at what changes can be expected from the refreshed models.
Tata Safari, Harrier facelifts: Changes expected
As seen in the teasers and in the spy shots that surfaced multiple times over the last few months, the new Safari will boast a completely redesigned front bumper featuring a wider grille, featuring body-coloured inserts. Furthermore, it will now feature a full-width LED DRL setup, a familiar split headlamp setup, and a central air intake underlined by silver trim.
Interestingly, the Harrier’s teaser, unlike the Safari’s, does not offer a glimpse of its styling updates, except for the connected LED light bar at the top. Further, slight differences in the main headlamp cluster design are visible on the Harrier facelift teaser.
Besides that, the SUVs are expected to feature redesigned alloy wheels, connected light bars, and a reworked tail lamp cluster. Additionally, both models will get new colour options.
Tata Safari, Harrier facelifts: What remains unchanged
Under the hood, both SUVs are likely to retain the same 2.0-litre diesel engine that produces 170 hp and 350 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a six-speed manual or a six-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
While the powertrain is expected to be the same, it will, most likely, feature different calibrations to suit the new weight and dimensions of the models. The same goes for the suspension system. Both SUVs also come with a number of common features, such as a touchscreen infotainment system, a digital instrument cluster, and a panoramic sunroof.
On the other hand, the SUVs will likely retain the same seating configurations with the Harrier staying a 5-seater SUV and the Safari getting 6 and 7-seater configurations on the higher trims. Also, the latter will also likely retain its trademark stepped roofline, something that has been since the OG Safari.
Tata Safari, Harrier facelifts: Launch and bookings
The Tata Safari and Harrier facelifts are expected to launch in India in the coming months. The launch date is yet to be announced by the company but the bookings are set to commence from October 6, 2023.
As for the price, we expect the models to be launched at a starting price of Rs 15 lakh, ex-showroom, Harrier and Rs 16 lakh, ex-showroom, for Safari.
