The Tata Nexon EV, India’s best-selling electric vehicle, has added another feather to its cap by bagging a perfect, 5-star safety rating in the latest Bharat New Car Assessment Program (BNCAP) tests. With this, the model has joined its siblings, Harrier, Safari, and the Punch EV to have secured impressive safety ratings in the country’s very own vehicle safety assessment program.Although both EVs, the Nexon and Punch, have achieved 5-star ratings, there’s a slight difference in the points they’ve earned. Here, let’s take a quick look at that.
Tata Nexon EV: BNCAP safety ratings
The electric SUV scored 29.86 out of 32 points for adult occupant protection and 44.95 out of 49 points for child occupant safety. It secured 14.26 out of 16 points in the frontal offset deformable barrier test and 15.60 out of 16 points in the side movable deformable barrier test. Both SUVs achieved 5-star ratings in the crash test assessments and are now officially two of the safest electric vehicles in the Indian market. However, the Punch EV has performed marginally better in the points secured, especially in the adult occupant protection. These figures, though close, highlight the safety standards maintained by both models, featuring six airbags, an anti-lock braking system (ABS), and electronic stability control (ESC), among other features.
