Tech company opens new San Jose office and adds jobs in expansion

SAN JOSE — A tech company has opened a new office in San Jose in a job-creating expansion that counters the dreary drumbeat of tech layoffs and space cutbacks in the Bay Area.

ISE Labs plans to employ hundreds at the new office in north San Jose, the company said. The new office is at 2201 Qume Drive.

The tech company saw this as an opportune moment to add a new facility because more semiconductor manufacturing operations are returning to the United States after a lengthy period of offshore sites.

“Demand for our proven engineering expertise is growing,” said Kenneth Hsiang, chief executive officer of ISE Labs.

About 200 people are slated to work at the new ISE Labs office and research site in north San Jose. ISE Labs already operates an existing facility in Fremont, which will remain open even with the new San Jose office.

“Expanding our operations by adding a second facility is vital to support our growing customers,” Hsiang said.

ISE Labs employs about 200 people in the Fremont office, which is located at 46800 Bayside Parkway.

ISE Labs bought the San Jose site in September 2023, paying $24 million, documents filed with the Santa Clara County Recorder’s Office. The office and research building totals 64,000 square feet.

“Ease of access in the South Bay was a key consideration in selecting our new site,” Hsiang said.

The company, which is part of a Taiwan-based semiconductor titan known as Advanced Semiconductor Engineering, or ASE, conducts testing of semiconductor devices to determine if they are likely to fail.

“We are firmly committed to our investment in Silicon Valley,” said Tien Wu, ASE’s chief executive officer. “It contributes to the region’s revitalizing its position in the semiconductor industry and supports U.S. manufacturers more broadly.”
