Summer is nearing an end—but not quite! If the past week’s celebrity sightings were any indication, summery fashion is still in fine form. But the best dressed stars? Those who rebuked seasonal signatures—bright colors, loud prints—and slipped into demure (maybe even mindful) all-black looks. In the process, they proved that a restrained ensemble can still have an impact.
A little (or a lot) of shimmer shined this week. In L.A., for instance, Emily in Paris star Lily Collins slipped into an Armani Privé peplum gown covered in dazzling crystals. Saoirse Ronan also opted for metallics in the form of a disco ball-worthy Louis Vuitton shift dress, worn to the Edinburgh premiere of The Outrun.
Other stars emphasized shape and silhouette. At a Beetlejuice Beetlejuice event in Mexico City, Jenna Ortega chose an archival Vivienne Westwood dress that was elegantly draped off the shoulder. At The Union premiere in L.A., Halle Berry went a more skintight route in a vampy black lace La Perla look that proved, yes, lingerie can be outerwear.
But worry not—there were still a few pops of color throughout the week. First, via Kim Kardashian’s buttery yellow leather Miu Miu scarf top, and then with Ashley Graham’s perfect purple Conner Ives summer dress, which had a hemline made for swishing.
