The Cornish Arms in Brunswick, Melbourne Faces Criticism for Disrespectful Comment on Receipt

A Melbourne restaurant has received backlash for a disrespectful comment on a customer’s receipt, where the diners were labeled as “f****** bogans”.

The receipt, which was shared on social media, displays a comment from the staff underneath an order for a glass of pinot grigio, stating “ice in it f****** bogans”.

“The lovely note that a restaurant left on my friend’s dinner receipt,” the social media user captioned the photo.

The Cornish Arms Hotel in Brunswick confirmed that a complaint was received from the customer on July 25, three days after the incident occurred.

“Staff members were spoken to and reminded of their responsibilities in the workplace. The junior staff member involved approached management and expressed sincere apologies, not realizing that it would print on the customer’s receipt,” stated the restaurant to 7NEWS.com.au.

“She has been spoken to and placed on a three-month probation.

“Her comment does not align with the values of the Cornish Arms, and we will continue to educate and train our staff to ensure that the business evolves.

“The customer has since been contacted and will be invited for a complimentary meal soon.”

However, many social media commenters supported the server, identified as Amelia on the receipt.

“If I received this on my receipt, I would find it hilarious,” one person commented.

“Give that girl a pay rise, she’s a legend,” another person wrote.

However, most people disagreed with this approach in treating customers.

“This is absolutely hilarious but also very unprofessional to leave such comments on a customer’s receipt,” one person expressed.

“At the bar I work at, one of our regulars, who is a wealthy lady, often requests ice on the side of her pinot grigio. While I may not prefer it that way, the essence of hospitality is to graciously accommodate customers’ preferences (within reason),” another person pointed out.
