Bree-Anna Antony was preparing for her best friend’s wedding in February 2021 when an electric toothbrush fell onto her foot in the bathroom. She experienced excruciating pain when the metal handle pierced her big toe. Despite the pain, she continued with the wedding, but the pain worsened throughout the day. The next day, Antony sought medical help and underwent several tests before being diagnosed with complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS). She now visits a pain clinic regularly and undergoes physiotherapy. Antony experiences constant pain, swelling, and muscle spasms in her leg and foot. The pain flares up with stress. Due to the severity of her condition, she is unable to work and relies on government assistance. Antony has joined a trial conducted by UNSW Memoir Team, which has temporarily eased her symptoms. She encourages others to participate in the trial as well. Antony hopes to exhaust all other treatment options before considering a spinal cord implant.
